J.N. Cummins & Co. Ltd. has a certified Safety Management system (SMS) that is approved to SafeTCert standard and is implemented across the whole group. Since the introduction of the SMS in 2007 its main aim is to reduce injuries, ill health and other unnecessary losses and liability and to protect our workforce, subcontractors and the general public from the hazards that may be involved in our work.
Good Safety Standards can only be achieved if everybody accepts their responsibilities. We recognise the important contributions that employees can make to the implementation of our system and therefore are committed to maintaining effective communications with them, in return we expect full co-operation from all Employees.
Over the last number of years JN Cummins & Co Ltd have been PSCS on a whole host of projects including 36 live ESB substations, each job entails a pre-start visit and meeting, specific site H&S files, Safety Plans, Method Statements, Risk Assessments, completion of daily job site safety plan (JSSP), permit to excavate and regular audits and inspections for each and every project.
On the training front we have 10 Certified First Aider’s, 9 personnel PTS rail track approved, The company Safety Manager is a Diploma level Graduate member of IOSH and certified instructor who can deliver Manual Handling and Abrasive Wheels Training for the Group when required and is trained in Signing, Lighting & Guarding at Road works as well as Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) for tools and equipment. Our supervisors are all trained to ESB Level E for substations and have all completed the IOSH managing safely 5 day course.
Our safety statistics have been improving year on year and the group had no reportable accidents from 2011, 2012 and 2013 and winning awards such as a major contributor to the 250,000 construction hours worked without an reportable accident on the Merck Sharp & Dohme Ballydine site, in 2014 there has been a new focus on behavioural safety and positive attitude to raising unsafe acts and reporting Near misses which will help reduce injuries further in the years ahead.
We have CSCS operators across the group for operating excavators, dumpers, working at height, location of underground services, slingers/banks men, and erection of scaffold towers, Our Transport and delivery team involves highly skilled drivers for forklift operation, HIAB, Lorry loaders and CPC qualifications.
Certified excavators, Dumpers, forklifts are annually certified by independent assessors, our lifting equipment such as slings, chains, shackles are tested independently every 6 months and certified to the industry standards.
We have worked on some of the highest profile projects in Ireland including Dublin, Shannon and Cork Airport’s, Fota Wildlife Park and Dublin Zoo, Intel, Apple, Google, Pfizers, Guident, Dept. of Defence, Dept. of Education, Dublin Port, NI Railway, ESB Generation and Networks, CIE and a host of others.
